RD’s messages to PM: Title
Flag Up Requests In Advance Description In order to maintain professionalism and prevent unnecessary stress, it is essential to foster a culture where musicians are expected to flag up their requests and requirements well in advance, rather than making last-minute demands on the day of the event. Over the course of several events, there have been instances of musicians displaying unprofessional behaviour, such as failing to read emails and unexpectedly making demands on the day, which is not conducive to a smooth event. Notable examples include Will B and Diego at Kew Gardens (11/02/2022), who suddenly expected RD to shorten sets without prior communication, and at Old Gore Barn (24/04/2022), where TR and LE complained about the lack of water bottles on stage. The band should be prepared, and any special requests must be communicated ahead of time to ensure a smooth event for all parties involved. By implementing clearer expectations for pre-event communication, we can prevent such issues and ensure a professional, positive experience for everyone. Notes Comments Expectations of Musicians: Musicians are responsible adults and should communicate any requests, expectations, or issues they foresee before the event day. If something is missing that was not agreed upon in advance, the musician should be proactive in resolving it themselves, rather than placing the burden on others. In the case of the water bottles at Gore Barn (24/04/2022), TR and LE should have gone to the bar to resolve the issue themselves, rather than confronting RD in a way that created unnecessary tension. Professional Boundaries: After the incident at Gore Barn, TR was not invited to sing on the subsequent two gigs. While this was not an explicit exclusion, it was a decision made in the interest of promoting a positive, cooperative atmosphere within the band. Beny was selected instead, as he consistently brings a positive energy to the performances. This decision reflects the need for harmonious collaboration and the importance of maintaining a professional attitude at all times. Communication Protocols: To avoid similar issues in the future, we will ensure that all musicians are reminded of the need to flag up their requests in advance as part of the show advance process. This includes requesting things like set changes, additional equipment, or any specific requirements that should be communicated well before the event. Managing Requests: Encouraging musicians to treat any requests as professional communication that should be handled ahead of time helps mitigate last-minute disruptions and ensures smoother event execution.
